"Jessica Wohl: Domestic Disturbance," an art installation meant to pull the viewer into a familiar but unsettling domestic environment, will open Friday, Nov. 30, at the University Art Gallery at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. Among the works on display is "Hold," a 2012 ink and gouache on magazine page. Wohl, an assistant professor of art at Sewanee, says she is fascinated by "the disjunction between the glossy perfection of the houses and lives represented in advertising imagery and the conflicts and disappointments of much-less-perfect lived experience." The opening features a reception and conversation with the artist, led by Dr. Kelly Whitmer of the History Department, in Convocation Hall at 4:30 p.m. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (all times Central). The gallery will be closed for winter break Dec. 19-Jan 14. The exhibit closes Feb. 17. For more information, call 931-598-1223 or visit www.sewanee.edu/gallery.
