Bradley County voter registration to top 60,000
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Bradley County’s registered voter list will likely top 60,000 before early voting begins next week.
A whirlwind month of voter registration was capped Monday with 407 new registrations, Elections Director Fran Green told county election commissioners Tuesday.
In the August general election the county had about 54,000 registered voters. As of Tuesday, that number was 59,891.
Ms. Green held up a tray of registrations and estimated about 500 were left to process.
“That will put us over 60,000, “ she said.
Election Commission Chairwoman Mary Frances Armstrong praised the office staff’s effort to handle the Monday mobs..
“They did one more fantastic job yesterday,” Mrs. Armstrong said. “The people who came in were pleased with the way they were being treated.”
With early voting beginning a week from today, the election commission met Tuesday to approve the list of election workers for the early voting sites.
There must be enough workers from their respective parties that the numbers are always balanced, Commissioner Harlen White said. Ms. Green then faces the challenge of making sure each voting site has the correct number of workers each day.
“There will always be last-minute calls from somebody who can’t work that day,” he said. “So some people will be scheduled for only a few hours and others will have more. That way there’s always someone she can call on.”
The commission will meet Tuesday, one day before early voting begins, to check a voting machine to make sure the ballot is right and to review the workers’ list.
