BREAKING The Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission has recommended a Chattanooga lawyer and three others for consideration to fill a vacancy on the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
John Westley McClarty, a Chattanooga trial lawyer with 30 years experience, is being considered for the job along with lawyers Sharon Dawn Coppock of Strawberry Plains and Sarah Y. Sheppeard of Knoxville, according to a news release from the Administrative Office of the Courts.
Mr. McClarty said the court position was one that meshed well with his experience.
“I have always had a desire to be a part of the appellate system in the state of Tennessee,” Mr. McClarty, 60, said in October after the application period for the Court of Appeals position had closed. “I feel this would be a good position for me based upon my experience and based upon my knowledge of law.”
Fourteen Eastern Tennessee attorneys applied for the job.
The Court of Appeals vacancy was created when Judge Sharon G. Lee left to serve on the Tennessee Supreme Court. Mr. McClarty also was one of the final three nominees for the Supreme Court position ultimately filled by Judge Lee.
