TRENTON, Ga — The sacrifices of all past, present and future veterans of military service were honored Tuesday during Veterans Day ceremonies in Trenton, Ga.
Observed at the exact hour, day and month when the armistice ending World War I was signed, today the national holiday celebrates those who serve in the military — not military action.
“It is not a day to celebrate war, but to celebrate peace and remember those who fought and died for it,” former Trenton Mayor Anthony Emmanuel said. “Remember, each time you see someone who has served our country, jest lean over and say, ‘Thank you.’ That’s all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded.”
