Zach Rogers

David Lipscomb junior Zach Rogers won Class A/AA state championships Friday in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump and was the anchor on the winning 4x200 relay team. His times in the sprint events were the fastest of any competitor, regardless of classification.

1. Your brother Austin is a receiver at the University of Tennessee. Do you think you could beat your older brother in a race now?

“We’ve never raced. I would love to at some point. I think it would be pretty cool for bragging rights.”

2. You played baseball last year and came out for track only this spring. Why change sports?

“My dream is to play college football, and a lot of coaches told me to work on my speed if I was going to play at the level I want to. I guess it worked out pretty well for me.”

3. You helped Lipscomb’s football team win the Class 3A state championship and have been rated one of the top prospects in that sport in Tennessee. Do you have a list of favorite schools?

“Right now I have 15 offers, mostly from teams in the SEC. I would say I’m looking at Tennessee.”

4. How much does performing in front of a large crowd inspire you?

“That’s huge. It’s a big adrenaline boost when you can hear everybody yelling, and it just makes me run that much harder or try harder in whatever sport I’m playing.”

5. Is there one thing you enjoy doing away from sports?

“Fishing. It’s something I can relax and do and just get away.”
