Chattanooga's Old Factory Pickers in Studio '99

Chattanooga is synonymous with bluegrass music, but another genre of Appalachian music is slowly being revived. The genre is “old-time” music which actually pre-dates what we know as bluegrass music by several years. The Old Factory Pickers are just one of many local purveyors of the genre. The band is made up of Lewis Oehmig on guitar, Bethany Baxter on fiddle and Alex Harwell on banjo. On their myspace page, they write “We play old time music. Mostly because we love it, but also because it's scary, dangerous, and unwholesome. Despite what you may have heard.” The Old Factory Pickers, along with bands like the New Binkley Brothers, are pushing forward a genre of music rich in Southern history and music that deserves to be heard. Check them out.
